FIFA have organized the “Goal Project” in different
parts of the world as technical training centre. It
helps to develop the quality of football. While
implementing the Goal Project for the first time in
Asia, Nepal was also included in the list. But due to
the problems at ANFA, the program didn’t started on
time in Nepal. Finally, Nepal is divided into 3
regions and the construction of Goal Project Technical
Centre has started in Dharan, Lalitpur and Butwal.
The construction in Dharan is in the final phase. The
technical centre is constructed in the “SAPTARANGI
PARK”. The total cost is about Rs. 10 Million. Dharan
Municipality have contributed Rs. 2 Million and the land
where the technical Centre is under construction. Dharan
Municipality is also helping/funding to build bridge and
the road to the technical centre. According to ANFA Vice
President Kishor Rai said to Nepalsport.com’s Dinesh
Thapa, “The center will be innaugrated by FIFA President.”
Two football grounds with 500 capacity stand for spectators
is under construction.
ANFA Vice president Mr. Rai said, ‘We hope to
produce quality young players with this infrastructure
build.”
The quality of Nepalese football is lowest in the SAARC.
The ANFA with the help from FIFA implemented the concept
of GOAL PROJECT to develop football from its lowest
level. The project will be jointly led by ANFA and the
ANFA district committee of the project where the
technical centre is built. But the locals will be given
the priority according to the ANFA officials. ANFA Vice
president Mr Rai said, “ANFA is working hard to
prepare the teams of U10, 12, 14, 17 to the Asian level
by year 2008. And the Goal project certainly will be the
gift for Nepal to achieve the goal.” I know that he
certainly have point.
There is 60 room hostel under construction in Dharan along
with the technical centre. The project will give
employment opportunity for many people and it can be
easy for national teams to conduct close camps.
So Goal Project is gift for the countries like Nepal. Dharan,
Lalitpur and Butwal are the three lucky town in Nepal to
be selected for the project. And as the construction are
on the final phase , we hope that ANFA will work hard
for more projects for other parts of the country too.
