Thapa reaches half century
Nepal’s
prolific goal scoring machine Basanta Thapa scored his
50th goal in Martyrs League

Nepal national team striker Basanta Thapa scored his 50th
goal in the Martyrs League in the game against Jawlakhal
Youth Club. He scored hat-trick against JYC to get his 50th
league goal in Nepal’s top division. He is the only player
(who is currently playing) to reach the half century
milestone.
 The significant thing of his 50th goal mark is
that none of the goal he scored is from the spot
(penalty). Why? Asked by sport journalists he replied,
“I only have tried to take penalty on two occasions
and I failed on both. So I decided not to take any more
penalty.”
Basanta, permanent residence of Butwal first played the
league in 2054 BS for RCT. He scored 6 goals for RCT in
the League. Next year he moved to MMC and scored 22 goal
in the league in 2057 BS. Then he scored 14 goals for
MMC in last years league and this year he has already
reached 8. He would have scored many goals, perhaps more
than 200, but the problem is that since he started
playing league in 2054, the league is only commenced in
four occasions (2054, 2057, 2060 and 2061 BS).
Basanta scored his 50th goal in his 40th
league game. He has scored five times for the national
team. He has scored against all the clubs in the top
division league in Nepal except against United Youth
Club (relegated to B division in 2057 BS) and his
present club MMC. He one day hopes to score against MMC
also.

league and there is still 10 games to play in the league and we hope
he will score more goals in the Martyrs League.
