Three Star Nirajan?
31 March 2003:
Nepal's star striker Nirajan Rayamajhi is playing for Three Star Club in the ongoing Mahendra Gold Cup. It remains to be confirmed whether this is a loan or a permanent transfer.

SAF Games postponed
31 March 2003:
Due to the events in the Middle East, Pakistan has postponed the SAF Games.

Mahendra Gold Cup begins
31 March 2003:
Biratnagar is playing host to the Mahendra Gold Cup. [Editors note: Footballnepal will not be covering this tournament]

Nepal hammer Afghans
18 March 2003:
Nirajan Rayamajhi hit two goals as Nepal routed Afghanistan 4 - 0 in the Asian Cup qualifiers. Hari Khadka and Deepak Lama scored the other two goals.

ANFA launch website
17 March 2003:
The new united ANFA has launched an Internet website: www.anfanepal.com.

Preliminary squad selected for Olympics
17 March 2003:
ANFA has selected a preliminary squad of around 30 players for the upcoming under 23 tournaments. The players are a mix of National Team, ANFA academy, and the 2000 Under 16 team members. See the "SAF Games" section for all the names.

Afghanistan included in SAF Games
15 March 2003:
Afghanistan will replace India in the SAF Games soccer tournament. India withdrew from the multi sport extravaganza, to be held in Pakistan, citing security concerns.

Olympic qualifiers postponed; Nepal to hosts both legs
15 March 2003:
Nepal will host both legs of its Olympic qualifying matches versus Palestine. The games will be played on April 12 and14, a week later than scheduled, so as not to conflict with the SAF Games football schedule.

Martyr's League in May
15 March 2003:
ANFA will hold the Martyr's League starting in mid-May at Dasharath Stadium.

Asian Cup squad announced
15 March 2003:
Nepal's Asian Cup squad is virtually identical to its SAFF Cup squad with three additions - Raj Kumar Shrestha, Anil Adhikari and Sagar Thapa.

ANFA comes under FIFA scrutiny
15 March 2003:
FIFA has suspended financial assistance to several nations for failing to properly report how they spent money given to them by FIFA in the past. Nepal is one of another few nations that is being threatened similar sanctions if they fail to show proper documentation of how they spent their FIFA grants. Nepal has until April to show the documentation. ANFA officials claim that they should have no problems clarifying their expenses and that this is just a routine FIFA  request.

Khukuri Cup 2nd round sees the usual lot advance
08 March 2003:
No big surprises at the ongoing Khukuri Cup tournament. All the heavy hitters such as MPC, MMC, Friends Club and Army have advanced to the final round which will be played in Kathmandu in late March.

Schedule conflict?
08 March 2003:
Nepal may have to reschedule its Olympic qualifying matches versus Palestine as the April 5th encounter will be during the SAF Games. Both events are an under 23 affair.

SAF Games to be held despite boycott
08 March 2003:
Despite an Indian boycott of the 9th SAF Games scheduled to be held in Pakistan, the games will go on according to organizers. Nepal has said that it will participate in the multi-sport event which begins at the end of March.

Army win Tribhuvan Cup
08 March 2003:
Tribhuvan Army Club defeated Eveready Football Club (Kolkata, India) on a golden goal struck by Surendra Chaudhary to lift the Tribhuvan Gold Cup. The final score of the match was 2-1.

MPC win tournament
10 February 2003:
Dev Narayan Chaudhary scored the lone goal to guide MPC past Friends Club in the finals of the Aha Gold Cup. The tournament was played in Pokhara.

Khukuri Cup kicks off
08 February 2003:
The Khukuri Cup got underway in over 20 districts on Tuesday. The winner of each district will move to the second round. [Editors note: The winners of each district tournament will be posted after the conclusion of all district level games.]

Tribhuvan Cup in Bhadrapur
03 February 2003:
Bhadrapur will play host to the Tribhuvan Memorial Gold Cup. It has been over a decade since this prestigious tournament was last played. The two departmental sides, MMC and Sahara Club, as well as the ANFA Academy, are the prominent Nepali clubs in the tournament. There will also be clubs from Bangladesh and India participating. The tournament will be played at the Mechi Stadium and the winning team will receive NRS. 50,000. [Editors note: Footballnepal will not be covering this tournament]
