Biratnagar, Nepal's strongest city 
15 February 2004:
A lone goal from national team midfielder Ananta Thapa secured a 1 - 0 victory for Biratnagar over Madhyapur in the finals of the Birendra Memorial Shield. Biratnagar will now have bragging rights as Nepal's top footballing city.

Dev Narayan hangs up his boots 
15 February 2004:
Dev Narayan Chaudhary, a rock in Nepal's central defense for nearly a decade, stated that he will be retiring from international football after he led Biratnagar to victory in the Birendra Memorial Shield. Chaudhary was Nepal's longest serving national team member. He was renowned for his heading prowess and played for some of South Asia's biggest clubs including East Bengal (India) and Mahendra Police Club. 

Hari snub inspires Jhapa 
11 February 2004:
Mechi Nagar (Jhapa) shocked Kathmandu 4 - 3 on penalties in the quarterfinals of the Birendra Memorial Shield. Hari Khadka, a hero back home in Jhapa, opted to play with a much stronger Kathmandu side, but his snub inspired the eastern side to an upset victory. 

Biggest Khukuri Cup ever 
09 February 2004:
Over 370 teams from 36 districts will be participating in this year's Khukuri Cup, Nepal's de facto domestic cup competition. The 12 'A' division sides, MPC, TC and the top 6 district teams will battle it out in the final round scheduled for late March in Kathmandu.

BBC sign British coach 
01 February 2004:
The Himalayan Times reports that newly promoted side Brigade Boys have signed J A Cairns, a native of Britain, to lead them in 'A' level competitions including the Martyr's League.

MMC keeps on rolling 
31 January 2004:
MMC defeated MPC 3 - 1 to capture the Aaha Gold Cup. Basanta Gauchan, Basanta Thapa and Rajesh Shahi scored a goal a piece for the victors. Ananta Thapa scored the consolation for the Police side.

ANFA to organize richest tournament 
23 January 2004:
The Birendra Memorial Inter-Municipality Football Tournament will be Nepal's richest tournament with the winning side taking home Rs. 500,000. This tournament will include only newly formed teams representing Nepal's largest cities. A total of 49 out of Nepal's 58 municipalities will participate in the tournament with the top 14 teams advancing to the final round.

Big boys get promoted 
23 January 2004:
Brigade Boys Club and Mahavir Club, perhaps the two most prominent clubs in the lower divisions, were promoted to the Martyr's League 'A' division after finishing first and second respectfully in the 'B' division. 

Police grab Mahendra Gold Cup 
23 January 2004:
Dev Narayan Chaudhary and Hari Khadka scored a goal a piece to lead MPC to a 2 - 1 come from behind victory in the Mahendra Gold Cup against Kolkata outfit Eastern Railway.
