Thapa to get AFC honor
30 April  2004:
ANFA supremo Ganesh Thapa will receive the AFC Distinguished Service Award for his contributions to football in Nepal. He will be presented the award at the AFC's 50th Anniversary Gala in Malaysia in early May.

Boys Sports opt out
18 April  2004:
One of last year's biggest Martyr's League spenders, Boys Sports Club, withdrew from this year's tournament because of financial difficulties and a lack of talent. The Martyr's League will now consist of 13 clubs and only one will be relegated.

Biggest Martyr's League ever?
11 April  2004:
This year's Martyr's League, scheduled to begin on April 17, will be the biggest ever - literally and perhaps figuratively also. 14 teams are scheduled to participate in the competition including first timers Tribhuvan Army and promoted sides Brigade Boys and Mahavir Club.

A mini arms race has already begun between Nepal's perennial second tier clubs. NRT, Sankata, Three Star and Friends Club have all made it clear that they will spend record amounts to compete against heavyweights MPC and MMC.  

Police smack Army
11 April  2004:
MPC defeated rivals Army 2 - 1 to capture their second Khukuri Cup title in five years. The victory makes the Cops the favorites to win the upcoming Martyr's League.

SAF Games fizzle for Gurkhalis
11 April  2004:
Nepal crashed out of the SAF Games after drawing to Bhutan and losing to Sri Lanka. Nepal was even in the standings with Bhutan, but the Dragon Kingdom won a coin toss to advance to the semifinals.

SAFF minnows shock South Korea
11 April  2004:
Former whipping boys of Asian football - Maldives, held World Cup semifinalists South Korea to a 0 - 0 draw in the the 2006 Asian World Cup Qualifiers. The game was held in the Maldives' capital city Male.

Hari's heroics sends MMC packing
18 March 2004:
Hari Khadka scored a sensational goal in extra time to lift MPC over MMC in the most anticipated match of the Khukuri Cup. The match was deadlocked at 0 - 0 at the end of regulation. Over 12,000 fans were at the stadium to see the battle between Nepal's two heavyweight clubs.

U20 draw
11 March 2004:
Nepal will face Japan, Vietnam and hosts Malaysia in the group stages of the Asian U20 Championship. The tournament will take place in late September 2004.

AFC Challenge Cup on the horizon
10 March 2004:
Asia's 17 weakest football nations, which includes Nepal, will be invited  to participate in the new AFC Challenge Cup. The tournament, which will take place every other year starting in 2006, is designed to help Asia's developing football nations improve by having them play against a similar level of competition.

Sankata pleads for action
08 March 2004:
Sankata Sports Club has asked ANFA to take action against Sagar Thapa who is currently contracted to them but has been playing with many different clubs in the last few months. It is rumored that Thapa is looking to complete a move to MMC in the coming weeks.

Nepal gets green light for SAF
03 March 2004:
Nepal has been allowed to participate in the upcoming SAF Games in Pakistan. Nepal's football team will be in a first round group with Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bhutan.

03 March 2004:
Inspired by the official FIFA and AFC monthly magazines, ANFA has decided to launch one of its own. The magazine will be titled Football Monthly.

Munal Club storm Bhutan
03 March 2004:
Jhapa heavyweights Munal Club beat Thinpu-XI (Basically the Bhutan national team) 3 - 0 to lift the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck Memorial Gold Cup in Bhutan's capital city. Munal Club borrowed a few players, including Hari Khadka, to fill their roster.

Nepal to host U14 tournament? 
03 March 2004:
Malik Riaz Hai Naveed tells us that Nepal might host the Asian U14 Festival from April 5 - 11. India, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Bhutan and Uzbekistan will participate. Nepal won the 2002 U14 Festival.
