Youth tournament to be held
27 September 2002:
The Ganesh Thapa led ANFA
will be holding an inter academy youth tournament
shortly in order to select the squad for the Asian
Football Festival youth tournament that will take
place in Nepal from December 20 - 30. Labaratory,
Depot and Gyanodaya will have two teams each in the
tournament and Sahara Club's (Pokhara) youth academy
will also be participating.
Gauchan back!
19 September 2002:
One of Nepal's star
performers at the 1999 SAF Games, Basanta Gauchan, has
returned to Nepali football. The diminutive midfielder
had moved to Japan to seek employment for the last
three years, but recently he has returned to Nepal. He
featured with the Pokhara 11 side in the ongoing
Birthday Cup.
Four clubs out of Birthday Cup
15 September 2002:
Galaxian Club, Kathmandu
Club, RCT, and Boys Sports Club will not be
participating in the Birthday Cup tournament
being held by the Karma Tshering Sherpa led ANFA.
Asiad holds key to reunification
12 September 2002:
President of the NOC,
Rukma Shamsher Rana, revealed that the ANFA dispute
may finally be resolved at the Asian Games in Pusan,
South Korea at which time Nepal's sports authorities
will be able to meet with senior AFC officials. Rana
also stated that both Geeta Rana and Ganesh Thapa are
willing to come together and unite the two ANFA's and
that they are willing to put aside their egos.
ANFA launches welfare fund
6 September 2002:
The Ganesh Thapa led ANFA has setup a welfare fund of
four million rupees, which will increase to 10 million
rupees for retired and injured players. ANFA said that
they hope that this fund will encourage children to
want to become footballers as they will not have to
worry about injuries threatening their livelihood. A
special committee will be formed to see who is
eligible to receive money from the fund.
